Be Still My Luxury Tom Ford Cream Shadow Heart

Saturday, January 7, 2017

in

I have finally jumped on the Tom Ford train and help me...please help me...I plan on traveling the world on it, because I am not getting off any time soon. Why, oh why, did I delve into such a luxury brand when I knew there was a chance I would fall in love? I don't have the answer, and I can't say I am mad about it. I have owned a cream blush from TF before, and I didn't love it and it was sent back. So, this is the first of the two items I have recently purchased and it is staying with me FOREVER!

Meet my Tom Ford Cream Shadow in Golden Peach. What a lovely peach she is. I am a huge fan of cream shadows...in fact, they are my very favorite formula for eyeshadows. I love a shadow that affords me the freedom to use it and ONLY it, especially when I am in a hurry or just want an easy makeup day. This shadow fits that bill perfectly.

The container comes as one but separates into two sections. The bottom section contains the actual cream...a beautiful, fluffy, soft, creamy, gorgeous cream!

Can you even? This is one of those creams that you apply with your finger, and blend it up into your crease, don't set...just go. And if you have blue eyes...click the link above or below and get this color!! It does magical things to the color of blue in your eyes.

The top half contains a "glitter" shadow. It is on par with the Charlotte Tilbury glitter shades that are in her quads. The Tom Ford glitter is a bit less emollient yet gives more of a payoff when swatched and applied to the eye. This is what I call a "mature" glitter. I, personally, have worn this during the day on top of the cream and felt completely comfortable...not like people were wondering what New Years Eve party I was going to later that night...in January.

So if you haven't picked up on this already, I love this stuff and do plan on getting the Naked Bronze color that is also a part of this launch. Or maybe just get some of the regular cream shadows. What are your fave colors if you have tried any? I feel some more Tom Ford receipts creeping their way into my wallet very soon!

Left to Right: Just Cream Shadow, Just Powder Shadow, Layered Shadows

2016 Top 10 Beauty Favorites

Monday, January 2, 2017

in
How is it even possible that 2016 is over?? I am starting to think I am going to blink and my kids will be in college. It just isn't fair! There is one good thing about 2016 being over...and that's all the good stuff I discovered throughout the year in the realm of all things beauty. I am only covering my top 10 makeup favorites in this post. I hope to get a favorite skin care post up very soon, so stay tuned for that one!

These products are in no particular order....I don't think I could actually pick one to be my most favorite.

Let's start with the face!

1. YSL Touche Eclat Blur Primer

There is so much I could say about this primer, but to condense it, I will say that it is the only primer I finished and repurchased in 2016. It is my go to and never, ever fails to give me the most flawless smooth base to apply my foundation.

2. Shiseido Synchro Skin Lasting Foundation

This gives me the happy feels every time I think about it. It is THAT good! I have recommended this to so many people, and as far as I know, they have all been more than satisfied. It is a semi matte finish that lasts all day long and gives a very flawless finish. The only downside to this is that it does contain alcohol, but nonetheless, I feel like it would still work wonderfully on all but super dry skin. You will not be disappointed if you give this one a try!

Left to Right: Shade Golden 2, Shade Golden 4

This is the number one product I recommend to all of my clients....it's a filter in a compact, and imparts such an ethereal glow to the skin, instantly making you look younger and more radiant. This is a finishing powder...not a setting powder, so I prefer to use it to buff out all of my face makeup once I am done with all of my steps. I also carry Dim Light and Luminous Light in my kit. The only one I wouldn't suggest buffing out with is the Luminous Light, but if you want a glow from within highlight, that is the one to choose! I feel naked when I forget to include this step in my daily routine. It's that beautiful!

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in "Radiant Light"

The best, hands down, bronzer in my collection. It took me quite awhile to appreciate this for the beauty it is. It gives just enough glow without looking glittery and the color is perfect for light-medium skin to make it look sun kissed and perfect. I tend to only stick to the bronzer side in the Fall and Winter, but when Spring and Summer come along, I mix all the colors together and love the effect! It also makes a great eyeshadow...I often where the highlight shade all over my lid on days I am short on time.

Left to Right: Bronzer only, Highlight only, both mixed

I don't know why I waited so long to jump on the Becca blush train, but I am sure glad I eventually did. The Blushed in Light trio palette is gorgeous, but the real standouts to me are the Luminous Blushes. They are very intimidating in the pan, but when applied with a brush they give such a radiant glow to the cheeks, and it would be super easy to skip a highlight while using them.

Left to Right: Wisteria, Songbird, Snapdragon, Camellia

Now let's move on to the eyes...some of these are staples that I use every single day in my makeup routine, and others are standouts that make for a super simple, yet elegant and put together, eye look .

This was such a standout product for me, especially for $4! It works just as well as the ABH Brow Pomade, but lasts much longer in the pot. I have had this one for almost a year and it has yet to dry out. A must have for someone that needs to fill in a little more than just a "bit" of their brows.

Color: Light Brown

Move over paint pot....Bare Minerals is in town. These are the BEST eye primers I have ever used, and they have an SPF of 15! They are wonderful as cream shadows like they are marketed, but as a primer, they have a place in my everyday routine, no fail.

Left to Right: Soft Linen, Barely Nude, Cinnamon

I am ALL about a simple eye...but I want people to think I spent a lot of time on it. These are the BEST way to achieve that glamorous and elegant look without spending more than 3 minutes on your eye makeup. I plan on collecting a lot more of these in the near future and recommend them to anyone who enjoys a good cream eyeshadow.

Left to Right: Onyx #5, Cold Copper #9, and Gold Ashes #12

These serve the same purpose as the eye tints above...swipe on, blend out and GO! And they don't budge....like at all! They are so super long wearing and make for an awesome eyeshadow base or to wear on their own. Another great item to start collecting.

Left to Right: Rose Gold, Amethyst, Cocoa, and Copper

And finally, we come to lips. If you know me at all, you know I am not a fan of matte lips.....on most people actually. It's just a look I find ages people more than it flatters (my opinion of course). And with my wrinkly lips, I just can't pull it off.  A good gloss makes my lips plump looking, healthy, and most importantly, camouflages my wrinkles.

This is by far my favorite gloss of 2016. It is long lasting, not sticky and they have some of the most beautiful nude colors....a line after my own heart!

Left to Right: "Far Out" and "Groovy"

And here is me wearing all of my faves listed above. I hope you all enjoyed hearing what my favorite makeup items were in 2016. I would love to hear what yours were! Have a happy and blessed 2017!!

Mother in Law Glowy Makeup

I can honestly say that mature skin is one of my very favorites to work with. I think it's because so many women who have mature skin think there is nothing they can do to help it or make it look younger, and are sometimes under the impression that makeup will only make them look older. It just isn't the case, and I love their reaction when they see the finished result.

This gorgeous mother of the bride didn't have any requests other than dewey skin. I love that!

So first I prepped her skin with a hefty amount of the Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base. The more the better I find when using this product. It soaks into the skin so well and does wonders to plump and smooth. I also used the Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer and Becca liquid illuminator in "Moonstone" to start the illuminated base she asked for. I used the Sephora Bright Future Serum Corrector in "Melon" to color correct some of her bigger sun/age spots before I went in with foundation.

For foundation, I mixed 5.5 and 8.0 in Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk. This really contributes to the fresh face look and since she claimed to have normal skin, it would last her all day. Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer in Medium Neutral was the only concealer I used. I find that is a lighter weight consistency that works great on mature under eyes. I set that concealer with the Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder. The regular translucent is way too drying in my opinion to use on skin over the age of 30. The entire face was set with the original La Mer Powder (new will be linked), which works amazingly well to set a face with an illuminated effect. I cream contoured with the Chanel Soleil de Tan Universal Cream Bronzer. I do not contour heavily on many clients at all, but especially mothers of the bride. It's just too harsh. To finish off the face I used MAC blush in "Sunbasque" and Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in "Luminous Light" to highlight the high points of the face.

I tend to keep eyes very simple when dealing with more mature eyelids. For her, I started with the Charlotte Tilbury Cream shadow in "Marie Antoinette" and blended that all over the lid and up into the crease slightly. I topped that with ABH shadow in "Topaz" and put "Fawn" throughout the crease. And that is it! Super simple, but really brings out the blue in her eyes. I smudged some Stila Waterproof Liner in "Damsel" on her lids and applied some Kiss #3 lashes to finish up her face and eyes!

Finally for the lips, I used MAC "Oak" Lipliner and topped with MAC "Spirit" lipstick.

She took a look at the finished result and said she felt like she was 40 again. That right there is why I do what I do. Even her posture looks more upbeat in the after picture. A little confidence never hurt anyone and I love being a part of instilling that for someone.

Hope you enjoyed this look!!

Bachelorette Party Fun

Really, what better reason to get glammed than a bachelorette party! My lovely client, Amber, is going to be in a friends wedding next month, and wanted her trial for that makeup look to be on the same night as the bride's bachelorette party. I was so very happy when she showed me her inspiration pic; a smoky outer corner with glitter on the lid and a nude lip!! That is my kind of glam! Details on the look below.

MAC Pro Longwear Foundation in shades NC37 and NC50
Laura Mercier Translucent Powder and RCMA No Color Powder mixed to set the face with a MAC puff (essential for oily skin; a brush just won't cut it)

Lips:

I hope you enjoyed this look. I hope to find time to do some requested looks on clients, so if you have any suggestions, be sure to leave them here or on my Instagram under this pic: "MandyDavisMUA"
